Notes | Built with a standard Churchward 3500 gallon tank. New tank fitted in preservation to the Churchward Immediate pattern. The side sheets of an intermediate tender are 4ft 4 in high compared to the normal 3ft 8 in and line up with the cab sides of GWR locos. Only 10 tenders were built with Intermediate Tanks to Lot A112. Subsequently, most likely as the result of tank swaps between chassis's while under repair at Swindon Works, they appeared on chassis's from other Lot numbers. The extra height of the side sheets did not increase water capacity but would have given more space for coal however the tenders remained rated at a nominal 7 tons coal capacity by the GWR. The bottom picture shows the tender in original condition prior to the new tank being fitted. |
